How To Create A Domain & Project In ALM?

A domain is a field or industry or a type of business. For e.g.: Health insurance, banking, retail, telecom etc. A client project is from a domain.

How to create a project in ALM?
A domain can have many projects. A project is process to develop a software for a client.

Project consists the artefacts like Requirements, Test cases, Test sets, defects, Reports, Graphs.
Consider an example of creating a project under the Banking Domain.
Select the domain which you have already created that is Banking.
Click on the Create project at the top of the window.
Create a Domain project in ALM
As you click on the Create project button, a dialogue box is opened with four options like Create an empty project, Create a project from the template, Create a project by copying the data from the existing project, and Create a project by importing data from an exported project file.
Select create an empty project option. Click next.

Provide the name of the project without any empty spaces.
Select the domain, click next, select the database which you have installed and click next.
Add the project admins which you have created by clicking on the name of the admins on the left side and click arrow on the above to add.

Lastly we get an option in the dialogue box, Click Next to activate the project and check it.

To create a Domain in ALM one have to be a site admin or one need to have permission tp log in as site admin.

How do you create a Domain in ALM(Application Lifecycle Management)?
To create a domain in ALM, you need to be a site administrator, or to be able to login as a site administrator.
Start by opening ALM. Find the icon and click on it, or right click on the ALM icon, then click start.
If you want to open ALM through a browser, paste the following URL into your browser Localhost8080/qcbin into the browser and click enter.
Before working, you will need to create domain, project and users.
To do that,, click the on Site administration, then Log in with you admin credentials. These are the id and password that you created at the time of installation.
Once you are logged in, click the create domain button at the top left of the ALM interface window..
Type in the domain name you want created.
When the domain name is created, it appears on the right side of the ALM window with default folders of properties and templates. You are allowed to create as many domains as you want.
How do you create a project in ALM?

If you wanted to create a project in a domain. You would select the domain a domain that you have already created.
Then you would click on the Create Project at the top of the ALM window.
Once you click on the Create Project button, a dialogue box is opened with four options, Create an empty project, Create a project from the template, Create a project by copying the data from the existing project, and Create a project by importing data from an exported project file.
You then select Create An Empty Project option and then click next.
You then can create a name for the project, but without any empty spaces.
Then select the domain, click next, select the database which you have installed, and click next.
Add the project administrators, which you have already created, by clicking on the name of the administrators on the left side and then click arrow on the above to add.
Select the domain you are using for the project
Then lastly you will get an option in the dialogue box, Click Next to activate the project and check it.

How To Create A Domain & Project In ALM?

Answer: It is only created by Site Admin or the permission to log in as admin of HP ALM.
# How to create Domain?
Answer: Follow below steps to create a domain in ALM:
1. On the left bottom side of the computer, we have an option to start the “Application Life Cycle Management” icon. Right click on it and select the option to start application life cycle management.
1.a. Sometimes we may get error. We have to repeat the process until we started with the server.
1.b. Type the url in internet explorer as Localhost8080/qcbin. The ALM site is opened with some options in a special window.
2. Click “Site Admin”
3. Write User name and password.
4. Click log in
you will see the user interface for the site admin
5. Click on create domain. you will be getting a dialogue box which asking you for domain name.
6. Type the name.
7. Click on OK
Thats how you can created many domains for different field. Each domain consists of different projects and templates.

# How to create project on a domain?

For example if you want to create a project under Banking Domain
1. Select the “Banking” domain which you already created.
2. Click the “create project” at the top of the window.

7. Select the Domain
8. Click Next
9. On the Next page server name is by default given here.
10. D.B Admin user and password – You will keep it as it is.
11. Click Next.
